Month of Turkey: Man from Göreme
One evening I was out roaming about looking to bring home a few nice, candid street shots. No luck though… everyone I came across was a bit camera shy. I was about to return empty handed when this man motioned to me and mimed that he’d like his photo taken. So a street portrait of a local just fell out of the sky and into my lap.
The month of Turkey (ok more like 4 months) is finally at an end… now on to other photo adventures!
Month of Turkey: Chicken Crossing
This shot is from an afternoon where I went out about Göreme to practice with my 50mm 1.8. There’s something nice about just taking one lens with you, especially one with a fixed focal length. It establishes a constraint, within which you can begin to get creative. With too many lenses (i.e. options) available I can start to get bogged down creatively… sometimes simpler is a wonderful thing. And it’s definitely lighter.
Month of Turkey: Red Valley / Rose Valley
Here we are looking out onto Red Valley. Or maybe Rose Valley. Or quite possibly both! It was impossible to tell which valley was which around Göreme but it really doesn’t matter as they’re all beautiful to wander in.
Month of Turkey: Fairy Chimneys
Some gorgeous fairy chimneys glimpsed while hiking through the valleys of Cappadocia around Göreme.
Month of Turkey: Preparing a Carpet
Our new friends at Sultan Carpets in Göreme getting ready to show us an antique Turkish carpet. This one used to be a grain bag carried by a pack animal – it’s being cut open at the seams to better see the whole thing. We ended up liking this one so much it’s now hanging on our wall at home.
